Building Your First Patch Project – Part 3

First File Scan

Once your game files have been scanned, you will see the entire list on Step 2.

From here, you can see all the information about your individual game files. You can also decide what to do with the individual files.

You will see 3 checkboxes…

EXCL – This means to exclude this particular file from the patch build.

IGNORE– This means ignore the file if it already exists on the users computer, regardless of checksum difference.

FORCE– This means to force overwrite of the file, even if it has the same checksum.

If you don’t select any of these, then a standard check will be performed against the local file. If the checksum differs, it will patch the file. If the file doesn’t exist, it will download it.

You can use the comments box to make comments about a particular file. This is useful for reference. The user never sees these comments directly.

Deployment Options

Upload to servers – This instructs the patch builder, after building the patch, to automatically upload it to all available servers in your servers list.

Export Locally – This tells the patch builder to build a copy of the patch files out to an external folder locally on your computer.

Skip Files with Same Size – This applies to uploads only. If your server already has a previous build on, and you don’t want to waste bandwidth/time overwriting files that were not modified, it won’t do.

It’s advisable to keep this setting on where possible as it increases your patch build and uploads.
